Overview
Crisp is the supermarket app for super fresh food delivered to homes throughout the Netherlands sustainably and with care. Using the Cruit referral app, Crisp has been able to expand their referral program reaching an engagement rate of 90%, leading to 53 hires. Crisp also gave their employer branding a massive boost with over 2,200 job shares and created a renewed sense of community by empowering their employees to find new co-workers.

The referral program in place was working well for Crisp. However, Crisp reached a crossroad in their business due to rapid growth. The program initially relied on word of mouth to encourage employees to refer candidates, which was successful and structured in their phase at the time. While this type of program had great impact already, Crisp wanted to improve their efficiency and cost-effectiveness even further, as they kept on growing.
The two most critical success factors for referral program engagement are awareness and a clear understanding of the program. Due to the above reasons and considering the rapid growth of Crisp, it became challenging to get such a great number of employees to actively participate and engage. Crisp wanted to make the referral process as simple and convenient as possible to have an even better employee engagement as before.
Compared to other recruitment channels, referral programs are a cost-effective solution for providing high-quality applicants. However, it's important that referral programs should be part of a comprehensive recruitment strategy, and that the employees have to be aligned with the goals of the company through clear communication. Crisp wanted to communicate the candidate profiles clearly to their employees to allow them to avoid costly mishires and find quality applicants more effectively and easily.

Lastly, Crisp wanted to improve the insights of the entire referral program, including number of referrals and referral apply-to-hire. Crisp was looking for a solution to make even better data-driven decisions and further improve their referral hiring.

Together with Crisp, Cruit organized a highly successful Launch Day at the Crisp headquarters in Amsterdam. Within one day, over 90% of the employees downloaded the Cruit app & created an account. During the following months until today, the success of the referral program was closely monitored with periodic reports and customer success meetings, bringing out the full potential of the referral program.

“What motivates very well is that you can track the result of your actions through the Cruit app. You can see who's your referral and in which job stage your referral is in. In addition, you can receive different rewards per job stage, which you can redeem right away for a gift card, cash rewards, Crisp products or save up for something big.”
This provided high engagement levels and a direct incentive for employees to refer again, as opposed to having to wait potentially months to know whether their referral would be hired.
Cruit enabled Crisp to identify their top performers and reward them, using the Leaderboard and Challenges in the App and the HR Analytics Dashboard. For example, the employee that facilitated the first hire through Cruit won a professional coffee machine, creating a buzz in the office that lasted for weeks.

Soon, Cruit is planning to open up their app for external referrals. With this, not only employees can share the jobs and earn up to €1,500 per hire, but anyone who downloads the Cruit app. In this way, companies can extend their referral program by more than 40% and reach unreachable networks.
